Competition Breakdown
Each spring MOZEE Motorsports competes against all other SAE Formula Hybrid teams at the Formula Hybrid + Electric competition at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH. The competition is hosted in conjunction with IEEE and held annually, with over 30 teams traveling to New Hampshire each year. Top programs such as Carnegie Mellon, the University of Waterloo, and MIT participate alongside us.
The team competes in events broken up into static and dynamic categories, so a strong finish takes more than a fast car; it takes sound engineering justification and a well-managed team behind it.
Static Events
Static events focus on the design of the car and the management of the team. Rather than measuring the car on track, judges evaluate the work behind it:
- Design judging. Judges review the engineering behind the car. Team members present and defend the decisions made in every subsystem, from the hybrid powertrain and accumulator to the chassis and controls.
- Team management and business presentations. Judges also evaluate how the team plans, budgets, and manages the project over the build year.
These events are where the team's documentation, analysis, and presentation skills pay off. In the 2024-2025 season the team took 2nd in engineering design and 4th in project management.
Dynamic Events
Dynamic events put the car on track, testing its real-world performance and, above all, its reliability. The endurance event is the toughest test of the week; finishing it at all is an achievement, and our MP4 was the first car (and one of only two overall) to ever finish the complete endurance event.
Results History
MOZEE Motorsports is a three-time World Champion at Formula Hybrid, with wins in 2017, 2022, and 2024.
